SUMMARY:Kentish Killer 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Kentish Killer sportive marks the start of the cycling season in South East England – regarded by clubs and riders as one of the UK’s toughest\, most demanding sportives. It is held on back to back weekends with the Hell of the Ashdown (HOTA)\, another extremely testing sportive. The Kentish Killer 2026 is set for Sunday 1st March and the route will follow the same course as previous years. \nThis event has been popular with Team De Ver\, our riders having taken part for the last 13 years. A number of members have expressed an interest for this event so there should be good representation and a good atmosphere. \nOrganisation moved from GS Avanti to Flamme Rouge Events after COVID lockdowns caused 2020/2021 events to be cancelled\, but the format and route remains the same and the event has maintained a link with charity Kent Air Ambulance. Climbs include Bates Hill\, Carter’s Hill\, Hubbards Hill\, Fordcombe Hill\, Ide Hill\, Sundridge Hill\, Row Dow\, Tinker Pot Lane. \nThe registration/start is at Brands Hatch motor racing circuit\, nearest train station is Eynsford which is on the Thameslink line (Denmark Hill\, Peckham Rye). Some members may drive so watch the WhatsApp group for messages if you need a lift. Entrance and car park is the main entrance “Colin Chapman Way” off the A20\, beware satnav may direct you via Scratchers Lane. \nRegistration opens at 10am on Wednesday 12 November – with details on the Kentish Killer website. This is a very popular event and will sell out quickly. \nRegistration cost in 2025 was £42.50 +£3.31 Booking Fee – Sign up via the Flamme Rouge Eventrac website. \nIf you sign/ed up to Hell of the Ashdown this year you will receive a discount code for Kentish Killer\, so you can enter both and DO THE DOUBLE. \nLong route (66.9 miles\, 5676ft climbing)\nThe organisers publish this on RideWithGPS (Long Route). DESCRIPTION:Our 2026 Annual General Meeting has been set for Wednesday 4 March starting at 7:30pm and will be followed by social drinks. We shall meet in the back room of The Railway opposite Streatham Common station. All club members are welcome\, your input to will be welcome and valuable. \n7:30pm – AGM will focus on a round up of the year\, election of committee members\, and propose some of the events for the year ahead. The agenda will be posted via WhatsApp group\, near the date. If you would like to suggest any topics please post these to the WhatsApp chat or via the Contact form on this website. \nAt the AGM all committee members stand down and are either re-elected or new people take over. DESCRIPTION:The Surrey Rumble is a timed sportive on Sunday 22nd March 2026 organised by Twickenham CC. Two distances 80 miles (125km) and 60 miles (95km) starting in Cobham riding south via Ewhurst towards Billingshurst and returning via Dunsfold and Puttenham. \nCheckpoint & refreshment points are at Fishers Farm and Tongham Community Centre (Long route: miles 29 and 57. Short route: mile 38) \nFirst rider: 07:30\nLast rider: 10.00\nEvent close: 15:00 \nThe last rider has five hours to complete their chosen route – 12mph / 19kmph for the short route or 16mph / 25 kmph for the long route \nEntry is only £22* and it looks like a good friendly event which is staffed by club members and popular with locals\, with around 200 riders each year. (*£30 on the day if any places remain) \nRegistration is open now via the British Cycling website\, entries close on 17 March. \nStart/Finish\nStart/Finish location is at Downside Village Hall. \nNearest train stations are Cobham & Stoke D’Abernon or Effingham Junction which can be reached from Clapham Junction (change at Surbiton). DESCRIPTION:A seven day training/cycling camp in Lanzarote\, staying at an all-inclusive hotel. \nRIDE WITH THE CHAMPION!!! 🎂 20th Anniversary event\nEach year Maurice Burton holds a warm weather cycling training camp on the sun kissed Island of Lanzarote. This is run as an all-inclusive camp at the Blue Bay Hotel in Costa Teguise. The camp caters for all abilities\, split into chaperone-led groups to allow riders to select the speed and daily distance compatible with their goals. \nIn 2026 we’ll be celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Maurice Burton Cycling Camp! It’s a special milestone\, and we’d love to see as many of the Team De Ver Cycling Club there as possible. Mark your calendars and start getting ready for an unforgettable week on the bike! SUMMARY:Team De Ver London to Hampshire Ride 2026
DESCRIPTION:Penned by The General\, this is one of Team De Ver’s popular “extended club ride” routes for summer\, a long distance rolling ride through picturesque lanes. The entire route is 124 miles (200km). \nTeam De Ver’s A-group has ridden this route a number of times\, and due to its popularity it now has its own dedicated date in the calendar – on Saturday 2nd May. \nOn the way out we go through Cobham and Guildford and long forest-lined roads\, then a gentle rolling climb from Farnham to Lasham Airfield (look out for gliders!) \nWe descend to the half way point in Preston Candover (63mi) where we’ll stop for lunch at the Candover Valley Store. \nThe route back is via Farnborough then some long fast forest roads. After Brooklands and Hampton Court we trace the same route home through Kingston\, Mitcham\, etc. \nMeet outside the shop. DESCRIPTION:The SWRC (South Western Road Club) has been running the May Flyer sportive for 27 years and the next event is on Sunday 17th May 2026. DESCRIPTION:This is a well organised annual event. It’s a long way from London but worth the trip for the pretty route around the New Forest and it’s good value\, with free jersey and Q&A with pro riders. \nThe Garmin Ride Out is back for 2026! This year it takes place much earlier\, on Saturday 30th May\, with start/finish at Moyles Court School\, New Forest. Once again Garmin are partnering this event with the charity Action Medical Research. Take on a 51-mile route through the New Forest while riding alongside Garmin’s sponsored pro riders and ambassadors. \nRide through Garmin Europe’s heartland – the spectacular New Forest National Park. Earn yourself an exclusive Garmin Ride Out badge (in Garmin Connect) for completing the route. \nEnjoy an intimate Q&A with Garmin’s pro-cyclists and sponsored athletes. Ride the route alongside them\, and have a chance to meet them in the Event Village afterwards. \nCheck out Garmin’s range of GPS bike computers\, smartwatches\, smart bike lights\, turbo trainers and more. Enter the Action Medical Research raffle for your chance to win some of these new products. \nAlong with entry to the Garmin Ride Out\, tickets also include a Garmin Ride Out 2026 jersey\, giveaways from partner brands and more. \nAll proceeds will go to Action Medical Research\, who organise this event. Best direct train on Saturday morning is 06:05 from Clapham Junction arrives Hinton Admiral 08:30 – it’s then a 10 mile (45min) ride to the start. We shall ride a country lane route to Whitstable via “Teapot Island” and Kingwood\, approx 70 miles. \nAt Whitstable we we’ll stop for refreshments – fish and chips always taste best by the sea! \nFrom Whitstable you have the option of catching the train back (Bromley South\, Victoria or Stratford\, St Pancras) or riding back a different route via Hollingbourne and Snodland\, taking the total up to 138 miles with over 6000ft of climbing. \nMeet outside the shop. DESCRIPTION:The Dragon Ride is one of the oldest and most iconic sportives in the UK\,  renowned as being the toughest  and most legendary in the British Isles. It will\, once again\, be returning to Margam Park for what will be the 22nd edition – The date is set for Sunday 14 June 2026. \nLou Lusardi birthed the very first Dragon Ride in 2004\, with just 280 riders\, he was inspired by the popularity of Italian Gran Fondo’s in his home country. At the time there were only a handful of sportives in the UK and Lou saw an opportunity to bring this type of event to the Brecon Beacons. An insight that has proven correct and stood the test of time\, with thousands every year now slaying the gruelling Dragon Ride. DESCRIPTION:The 2026 edition of Etape du Tour will take place on Sunday 19 July 2026. The route will be the same as a stage 20 of the Tour de France\, the pro teams will follow five days later. \nFrom Le Bourg d’Oisans to Alpe d’Huez\, take on the mythical Alpine climbs in a day that’s both breathtaking and fiercely demanding. A 170 km route\, 5\,400 m of elevation gain\, and 4 spectacular climbs await you. \nThis route is without doubt one of the toughest in recent years. It will test both your legs and your mind on the legendary slopes of the col de la Croix de Fer\, col du Télégraphe\, col du Galibier\, and col de Sarenne. \n\nGeneral Entry Registration opens on Monday 3 November at 1pm UK time with standard entry at 175 Euros. Standard entry will sell out quickly\, after which there will be higher-price package options still available with hotels and travel agencies – see How to Register on the Etape website for more details. \nPriority entry opened to some groups on Thursday 24 October\, for example if you are a previous participant in the Dragon Ride or a member of the Tour De France Club – details were sent by email and offers will be available for a few days until this wave sells out. \nAccommodation will get booked-up very quickly. If you are planning on entering you are strongly advised to book a hotel or Airbnb immediately\, if you’re lucky you may be able to find somewhere with free cancellation. DESCRIPTION:Mark the weekend of Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th July on your calendar. \nWe have listed this as a Sportive but it is NOT a sportive. It is a tradition. An experience. A wonderful thing that should be ticked-off on every cyclist’s bucket list. \nIf you’ve never ridden through the night before\, this is the one to do – the big one\, the best one\, the real deal. Every year it’s a different experience depending on who you are with\, who you meet\, what the weather is like\, and for all the random stuff that happens on the way. \nTHIS IS NOT A RACE! – It’s about the journey\, not the destination! \nLegend has it\, the first DD was in the early ’90s when a couple of bike couriers who were tired of their week in London\, they set off riding into the night and just kept going until they reached the sea. They ended up at the beach of Dunwich in time to watch the sun rise over the sea. \nHistorical fact: Dunwich (Saxmundham) was once a thriving port city and capital of East Anglia that\, over 100s of years of coastal erosion\, has completely disappeared into the sea. \nSome basic background details – \n\nIt takes place on the weekend of the full moon nearest to the date of the summer solstice\, to get the longest brightest warmest night\nOrganisation is deliberately minimal – there is no entry fee\, no timing chips\, no start line\, no finish line\, no entry fee\, no marshals\nThe ride starts at the Pub on the Park in Hackney\, East London\, with everyone slowly gathering in London Fields during the evening\nYou leave when you’re ready\, generally any time between 7-10pm with most leaving between 8-9pm\nThe distance is around 112 miles (180km) with not much climbing\, about 4600 feet (1400m)\nThere is no official map of the route but instead a list of places/waypoints. SUMMARY:Ride of the Falling Leaves 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Ride of the Falling Leaves is an annual sportive organised by local South London club Dulwich Paragon. The routes follow pretty lanes\, many of which we cover on Team De Ver club rides. Entry fee is cheap and usually includes coffee & croissant at the start and a meal and pint at the finish! (option of chicken or vegan). A good number of De Ver riders take part each year from all groups A-B-C. \nThis year’s ROTFL will be held on Sunday 11 October. Registration will open on the RiderHQ website on 4 September. Details of the event are published on the Dulwich Paragon website. \nRegister early to avoid disappointment 😉 \nStart early to finish early\, the queues for the post-ride food vans get VERY long later on. \nRoutes\nThe routes (70km/105m) have remained largely unchanged over the years. They always start at the iconic Herne Hill Velodrome\, before heading up and over Crystal Palace and out of London via Layhams Road. The first challenge is the climb to Woldingham\, after which the routes split. There is a food stop at Velo Barn at 22km(short) or 46km(long). SUMMARY:Catford Hill Climb 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Catford Cycling Club’s first hill climb took place on August 20th 1887\, with 24 riders attempting to conquer Westerham Hill in Kent. Back then\, this hill was considered nearly impossible to ascend on a bicycle\, especially with solid tyres and unmade roads\, making it particularly treacherous for riders on ‘Penny Farthings’. The winner of that inaugural race was Mr S.F. Edge. \nWith such a great history\, the Catford Hill Climb remains the oldest cycling race in the world. Thankfully today’s bikes are a lot easier to ride and even the potholed roads of South London and Kent are a great improvement on those of 1887! \nFrom 1937 onwards the race has been set on Yorks Hill in Kent\, leading up from Bough Beech Reservoir to Goathurst Common. \nThe 2026 event will be held on Sunday 11th October in the morning. The Bec Hill Climb takes place on the same day in the afternoon\, if you fancy a double-challenge! \nTeam De Ver is a member of CTT (Cycling Time Trials) so club members are able to enter this open event. DESCRIPTION:The Bec Hill Climb\, hosted by the Bec Cycling Club\, is a long-standing cycling event with roots dating back to 1956. Organized initially by Ron Beckett\, it features a challenging climb up White Lane\, a closed road near Limpsfield Surrey\, leading off Titsey Hill. The event has become a local classic\, attracting large crowds and featuring various categories for riders of all ages and abilities. \nThe Bec Hill Climb was one of Maurice Burton’s first ever races as a teenager\, and Germain Burton took gold in 2010 and 2011. This is a very popular event and Team De Ver members will be there – if you enter we’ll cheer you on! DESCRIPTION:The Spring Onion weaves its way south from Cobham in Surrey\, to Rudgewick and Wisborough Green\, then back north through Plaistow and Dunsfold (home of the Top Gear test track). The route finishes with a timed KOM up Coombe Lane and speedy roll back to Cobham. \nEntry includes feed station at The Cricketers Arms Pub Wisborough Green plus meal and cake at the finish. There are prizes of Moda bike frames for men and women\, awarded to the 50th male and 10th female. \nNow in its 18th year\, the event is organised by European Cycle Events who organise travel to major events and also tailor-made trips. \nEntry via the European Cycle Events website opens soon with an early-bird price of £39.95. \nThere will be a small number of places on the day due to cancellations\, check their website for details. \nStart/Finish\nHQ is Cobham Village Hall. \nNearest train station is Cobham & Stoke D’Abernon which can be reached from Clapham Junction. The first trains from CJ on Sundays appear to be 7:06 arr 7:46 (change at Surbiton)\, or 7:49 arr 8:46 (change at Wimbledon). \nDoors open 7:30\, Event starts at 8:30. DESCRIPTION:A seven day training/cycling camp in Lanzarote\, staying at an all-inclusive hotel. \nRIDE WITH THE CHAMPION!!!\nEach year Maurice Burton holds a warm weather cycling training camp on the sun kissed Island of Lanzarote. This is run as an all-inclusive camp at the Blue Bay Hotel in Costa Teguise. The camp caters for all abilities\, split into chaperone-led groups to allow riders to select the speed and daily distance compatible with their goals. \nMark your calendars and start getting ready for an unforgettable week on the bike! The next trip is scheduled for the week of 18-25 April 2027 (Sunday to Sunday). \nAll the rides are beautiful and interesting and we take in several interesting tourist attractions during the week. You can bring your own bike or hire excellent bikes locally\, including E-bikes. \nBookings are now being taken for 2027. More details can be found on the De Ver Cycles Facebook page. \nAll rates quoted are full board (all meals included) for seven nights plus a De Ver jersey. Rates exclude bike rental during the camp\, this can be arranged upon request.
